Shooting Briefly Closes D.C. Early Voting Site
WASHINGTON (AP) -- An early voting site at a community center in northwest Washington was briefly closed because of a shooting outside the building that left one person wounded.
D.C. Board of Elections & Ethics spokeswoman Alysoun McLaughlin says the shooting happened at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday outside the Takoma Community Center.
McLaughlin says an elections official closed the site for about 20 minutes, but no voters were present when the site was shut down.
McLaughlin says a male victim who was shot was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, but she did not know his condition. She said, however, that it did not appear to be life threatening.
Saturday was the last day of early voting before the April 3 primary when 11 contests will be decided.
