Sewer Line In Catonsville Leaked For 3 Weeks
CATONSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Baltimore County officials say a Catonsville sewer line damaged by Superstorm Sandy went undetected for three weeks.
A Department of Public Works spokesman tells The Baltimore Sun that the pipe leaked nearly 1.3 million gallons of raw sewage into a Patapsco River tributary.
David Fidler says county workers discovered the spill Tuesday on the grounds of Spring Grove Hospital Center after a neighbor complained about the odor. The hospital is a state psychiatric facility.
Spokesman David Fidler says an uprooted tree broke the 8-inch sewer line. He says it apparently escaped notice because the rupture was in a wooded area of the 200-acre campus.
