Sad Day in College Lacrosse
Today is a sad day in Maryland and Virginia and the entire lacrosse community for today is the day that Yeardly Love will be laid to rest at the age of 22. Unless you have been under a rock you know what happened about a week ago in Charlottesville. A senseless tragedy and loss of a life that never should have happened. This upcoming weekend is selection sunday for the Men's and Women's NCAA Tournament fields, a time which is supposed to be celebrated instead everyone's minds will be on the tragedy. Right now it seems that Men's lacrosse player George Huguely is the person responsible for this crime, but I don't think I have to remind people what happened at Duke a few years back. As soon as the story broke everybody wanted the Duke players punished for the acts they were accused of, but as more evidence surfaced it became apparent the Duke players did nothing wrong. I am in no way saying that Huguely is innocent but lets just wait before we convict him in the court of public opinion. However way you want to look at it a young woman who had so much life ahead of her is now gone, and being only 24 anytime I see someone in my age group die it always sends shivers up my spine. Both lacrosse teams have decided to play through this tough time some might not agree but being an athlete the time that your on the field is at times less stressful especially now. In the whole scope of things an NCAA Championship for either team might not change their lives in the long run but at least if only for a short time it can take their minds off what has happened. For at least this month I am a fan of the Virginia lacrosse teams and all of my thoughts and prayers and im sure the entire country's are with them and the families.
