Rookie Mistake?
At his press conference to kick off training camp 2010, Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he was "disappointed" with the news regarding top draft pick Sergio Kindle who suffered a fractured skull in a domestic accident in Texas where he remained hospitalized on Monday. The rookie linebacker from the University of Texas fell down two flights of stairs at a friend's house. Harbaugh says Kindle woke up in the middle of the night and in the darkness he lost his way and
tumbled to what is a very serious injury. It's hard to refrain from speculating about the circumstances behind this incident and Harbaugh's use of the word "disappointed" only furthers the conjecture that there's more to what happened than a simple slip-up. Kindle's past includes a DUI arrest and a citation for a car accident he was involved in as a result of texting from his phone while he drove. In other words, he has a history and this most recent incident could be consistent with a pattern of careless behavior and bad judgment. It's a bad turn of events for the young man (and primarily- one can only wish him well in his recovery) and a blow to the Ravens who had to field questions about Kindle's character when he was drafted in April. Again, all of the facts have not yet been made public, but for now there is reason for the Ravens to be disappointed in their top draft pick.
