Rob Long: You've Gotta Love This
I know, some of you are of the opinion that kids should have to play NCAA basketball for at least three years, or should be three years removed from high school before they are allowed to enter the NBA Draft.
On the other hand, some of you believe a kid who's good enough to enter the NBA Draft out of high school should be allowed to do so without HAVING to go to college for a year. Either way, throw your opinions out of the window for this year because the freshman class is absolutely sensational.
I watched two basketball games on Tuesday night that included one of the best freshmen classes in awhile. Not just freshmen from one school like Kentucky had two years ago. I'm talking about great young players from three of the four teams like Andrew Wiggins from Kansas, Jabari Parker from Duke, Julius Randall and from Kentucky.
Michigan State represents the fact that you don't need to join the Baby Boomers to win but Kentucky, Duke and Kansas have all found a way to bring young kids in and win immediately and turn the roster over to reload immediately.
With the excitement that was created by these 18 and 19 year old kids, it doesn't look like the NCAA will be interested in changing the rule anytime soon. Television has allowed us to know who these kids are far before they commit to college. We knew who Andrew Wiggins was before he ever lased it up as he donned the cover of ESPN The Magazine. In fact, these young freshmen are becoming more popular than the upper classmen in the country.
If you just watch these young men go about their business and enjoy if for what it is, it's great college basketball. You've gotta love this.
