Retired Baltimore Police Officer Attacked Outside A Bar

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A retired Baltimore police officer was brutally attacked over the weekend. Investigators say the assailants were teens, beating the man outside a bar.

Tracey Leong has more on his condition.

The 71-year-old officer is being treated at Shock Trauma, where he is listed in critical condition. Police Commissioner Kevin Davis visited him Tuesday and says this is simply unacceptable.

Surveillance footage captures the vicious beating outside Paradise Bar in Baltimore. Investigators say four individuals allegedly attacked a retired Baltimore police officer when he caught them messing with his car outside the bar on Pennington Avenue.

"Unacceptable. Disgusting, quite frankly, what they did to this man," Davis said.

Police Commissioner Kevin Davis calls it a senseless crime.

"We are all one big family so when one of us is suffering or hurt, or in this case is a victim of a brutal, vicious crime, it's my job to check on them," he said.

Police arrested 16-year-old Allan Jerome Howard, who they say was involved in attacking the 71-year-old man---but there are still three other suspects police are searching for.

"It's getting worse and worse as time goes on and it's hard to understand why kids do this stuff," said Michael Falco, who lives in the neighborhood.

Falco lives a block from where the beating happened and says these violent acts are becoming all too common.

"Especially at night when the sun goes down, it's a dangerous neighborhood," he said.

Howard is being charged as an adult in this beating.

Anyone with information on the other suspects is asked to call police.
