Relatives Of Woman Who Died In DC Subway Accident To Sue
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Relatives of a woman who died when smoke filled a Washington subway train earlier this month are filing a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against the Metro transit agency.
Attorneys for the family of Carol Glover say Metro failed in its responsibility to have an evacuation plan for passengers on the stricken train.
Investigators say an electrical malfunction caused the train to fill with smoke shortly after it left the busy L'Enfant Plaza station during the afternoon rush hour on Jan. 12. It took firefighters a half-hour to reach the passengers, who were told to stay on the train. Glover wasn't taken to a hospital until more than an hour after the smoke was reported.
Lawyers for Glover's family plan to file the lawsuit Friday and discuss their claims at a news conference.
