Ravens Training Camp Update with Tony Lombardi

Tony Lombardi from the Russell Street Report joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to give us the latest information from Ravens Training Camp.

The Ravens have been known to have prominent tight ends in the past, Tony Lombardi speculates about the future of the position. "The tight end position is an interesting one because for the Ravens, as you know, that's been a productive position for them for a number of years. Before there was Todd Heap, there was Shannon Sharpe, and they've had some big names over the years. That's a position where they have three guys who, added up, have one year of experience in Nick Boyle, and in Maxx Williams, and Crockett Gillmore this year."

Though the race is tight, Lombardi thinks there my be an outlier.  "I thought Crockett Gillmore would get more looks than he's getting, but right now, the guy is Maxx Williams. He's getting open, he's making his catches, it's not spectacular but he's getting it done and that's all you really need in the red-zone for the Ravens offense."

The Ravens have questions regarding the Strong Safety position after Matt Elam tore his bicep yesterday during training camp. "Matt Elam has been heavily criticized, and justifiably so, because he hasn't been the pick they thought he'd be, he struggled making tackles in the open field, and he struggles as a center fielder at safety. So, his criticisms are just, but he does provide depth, and depth that has seen a lot of time in the field which you like to have on your bench."

Lombardi already has an idea of who he thinks will be at Safety for the Ravens. "I think at the Safety position, by the looks of it, are two complimentary players, between Kendrick Lewis and Will Hill, barring injury."
