Ravens Week 11 Injury Report: Jimmy Smith Returns, Timmy Jernigan Absent From Practice

By Daniel Benjamin

The Baltimore Ravens (5-4) began the week knowing that the Dallas Cowboys (8-1) offense was going to be difficult to contain. But the task for the NFL's top-rated defense may be even more challenging if cornerback Jimmy Smith and defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan are unable to play.

Smith was on the practice field for the first time this week on Friday, as he is currently dealing with a back issue. He was limited, but at least he was out there, unlike the first two days of practice. He is officially listed as doubtful for the game.

Smith was slated to matchup against Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant. Bryant's season stats aren't currently what they normally are, but he does have three 100-yard games. If Smith is unable to go, rookie Tavon Young will take his spot in the lineup. Young has done a splendid job filling in for the injured Shareece Wright the last couple of games.

Jernigan did not practice for the second consecutive day on Friday due to a bum shoulder; he did practice on Wednesday. Jernigan, officially listed as questionable, is a major part of the Ravens pass rush—he is second on the team with five sacks.

Outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil was on the field for the first time this week since last appearing in a game against the New York Giants in Week 6. He is listed as doubtful for the game against Dallas after being limited on Friday.

Ravens offensive line remains revolving door

The Ravens offensive line has been a mesh unit all season long. Once again, Baltimore won't have their Week 1 starting o-line as rookie left guard Alex Lewis sprained his left ankle against the Browns. He will be out at least the next six weeks. John Urschel or Vlad Ducasse will start in his place. The good news is that right guard Marshal Yanda is slated to start after missing three of the last four games.

Cowboys injury report

Dallas has some injury issues themselves, listing seven players on the injury report this week. Strong safety Barry Church (forearm) and cornerback Morris Claiborne (groin) are officially out for the game.

Both Claiborne and Church have missed each of the last two games, and the Cowboys' secondary has been torched to a tune of 611 yards along with four touchdowns and no interceptions the two weeks. Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw for 408 yards along with three touchdowns last week against the Cowboys. Church and Claiborne have combined for three of the team's four interceptions.

Backup quarterback Tony Romo, starting left tackle Tyron Smith, defensive end Demarcus Lawrence, tackle Chaz Green and Bryant are all listed as questionable. All five are expected to play.
