BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- A firefighter in Colorado captured a rare photo of a 'firewhirl' on Monday.

According to the Weather Channel, 'firewhirls' or fire tornadoes form when air superheated by an intense wildfire rises rapidly, consolidating low-level spin from winds converging into the fire like a spinning ice skater, pulling its arms inward."

Charles "Trey" Bolt, of Beaver Creek Fire  Engine 1419 was there as the 'fire whirl' came whipping by near the Wyoming-Colorado border.

This photo has been shared more than 15,000 times on the Beaver Creek Fire Facebook page.
