Public Opinion Sought On Replacing OC Boardwalk
OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) --Ocean City plans a public hearing in February to get public opinion on replacing the 2.25-mile-long boardwalk.
Resort officials recently reviewed options for replacing the boardwalk. The project could take two to three years to complete.
Much of the walkway's southern yellow pine must be repaired or replaced each year. Underneath, many support piles and beams are more than 50 years old and can't hold nails.
Wood replacement would cost about $10 million. Using a wooden substructure with concrete supports gets the price down to $6 million.
Another option includes building a concrete tram lane up the center of the boardwalk. That would cost about $5.6 million.
