MVS NFL POWER RANKINGS: 2010 Preseason

ALLISON RANKSI ...is back.

Let me bring ya'll up to speed on the way we do "Power Rankings" on the MVS. Viviano cant stomach the idea of "power rankings" ; he's a SHOW ME kinda guy... I guess.  I totally get the fun-factor of trying to predict/explain the rise-and-fall of professional sports teams...much like fantasy football it's another vicarious outlet to prove ones knowledge  (or for some a  lack of knowledge).

Plugging into NFL teams and trying to figure out which puff smoke and which breathe fire is a good way to stay informed, attached and invested. Playing the game on Sunday is all that really matters...the wins...losses...results. In the end there is a playoff system and Super Bowl to decide which team is top dog...but might as well rank 'em as you see  'em along the way...for fun.

Last season - on a whim...off the cuff...I announced on-air that I wanted to do weekly MVS power rankings. Listeners sent me e-mails stating their case as to why they should get the gig...we received nearly 150 responses...ONE stood out. It was cocky...to the point...a hands down winner...and it came from A WOMAN!!

Allison Ranks was born!

Allison is a Bawlmer girl...Pikesville raised...Terp educated...and she knows her stuff. "RANKS!" did an awesome job with the power rankings and although I kicked the smug-cocky-know-it-all-football-savant-chick-stuffing right out of her during our PLAYOFF PICK 'EM contest...I've decided she does deserve to keep her gig as in-house ranker.

So, here we go...the 2010 NFL season is ahead...Ravens vs. Jets in the MNF opener right around the corner...30 other teams gearing up for the race to Dallas. Take it away RANKS!...

ALLISON RANKS!: 2010 Preseason Pecking Order

Hi guys!

Your favorite (if not only) Baltimore NFL Power Ranker is back for a second season.  I welcome all comments, positive and negative.  Please remember, it's tough to make any real assessment before the season even starts, so these might be a little rough…

1.   Indianapolis Colts- Until somebody beats them in the 2010 season, they're still the team to beat in the AFC.

2.  Green Bay Packers – Aaron Rodgers looks unstoppable and is on the brink of having the best year of his career.

3. New Orleans Saints – Will the Saints be able to replicate their 2009 success?  It might be hard.

4.   Baltimore Ravens – The Ravens offense has so many weapons, teams won't know which way to look.

5. New England Patriots- The Patriots have been overshadowed this off-season, by the rival Jets, but Randy Moss in a contract year will be very hard to stop.

6.    Dallas Cowboys –The Cowboys have not looked good at all this preseason, but they always find ways to win when it counts (in September that is).

7.  New York Jets- Can the Jets get their offense moving?  Will Mark Sanchez improve?  Will Revis report?  Lots of questions that need answers, but if the answers are yes to most, they'll be a very strong team.

8.  San Diego Chargers – No LT, No Vincent Jackson, No Antonio Cromartie (and none of his 3 year olds).  A few new additions could keep the Chargers on top in the weak AFC West, but they'll be looking over their shoulder at the Broncos and even possibly the Raiders this season.

9.  Minnesota Vikings- Personally, I think Favre has 4 games in him this season before his old body gives out and with a very thin WR core, it could be a long year for the Vikings.

10.  Cincinnatti Bengals- Will T.O. and Ocho run as well as they run their mouths?

11.  Atlanta Falcons – Michael Turner is poised for a much stronger season and Matt Ryan has another year of experience under his belt.

12.  San Francisco 49ers – The 49ers will channel Coach Mike Singletary's toughness into the regular season and a healthy Frank Gore will be tough to stop, but can the 49ers be real contenders with Alex Smith running the offense?

13. Houston Texans- Will the Texans finally make the playoffs?  With the best receiver in the league and a strong running back crew, the Texans will certainly score points this season.

14.  Miami Dolphins – Lebron might play for the Dolphins while he's waiting for the NBA season to start… He'll announce that decision on ESPN next week.

15.  Phildelphia Eagles- The Eagles look a whole lot different this year with Kevin Kolb leading the way… Will LeSean and Desean be enough to keep the Eagles flying high?

16. Tennesee Titans- If Chris Johnson runs for 2500 yards this season like he's proclaimed and Vince Young finds ways to win like he always does, the Titans might challenge the Colts in the East this season.

Bottom Feeder:  Until the regular season starts it's tough to declare a bottom feeder, but my prediction for the fewest wins this season has to be the Buffalo Bills.  They play in a killer division... so wins will be very hard to come by.

Best of  luck to all the teams this season...this is going to be fun...

-Allison

(We only do the TOP 16 and a weekly "Bottom Feeder" on the MVS. Want more? Do your own rankings...send 'em to me and maybe I'll post them as well. Have fun and be sure to leave comments...let Allison Ranks know what you think of her pecking order. - BULLDOG)
