Players react to Trembley's dismissal
The clubhouse was somewhat dismal before the start of Friday night's Red Sox-Orioles game. I'm sure the last thing the players wanted to respond to were questions regarding the dismissal of Dave Trembley. However it appears to be a smooth transition from Trembley to Samuel and the players all appear to be on the same page... Trembley is not the one to blame but Samuel is the right man for the job.
Here are some quotes from the clubhouse pregame:
Wigginton: "The manager always seems to be that fall guy. That's just the way it works in the game. Its our jobs as players... We have to do a good job of preparing and then getting ready to play the game because ts all about W's and its all about us getting the job done on the field.
"Its not going to be quiet as hard because we all know Juan from being the third base coach. I think everyone has a lot of respect for Sammy. He knows the game, has accomplished a ton in the game and this is just another thing on his pole. I think everybody here knew Dave wanted the best for not only for the organization but for each and every player in here. H e wanted to see the guys do well."
Millwood: "It sucks. It sucks that we as a team didn't play well and he takes the fall for it. In some ways we have to feel somewhat responsible. Dave never threw a pitch or swung a bat or anything. He tried to put guys in situations where they'd succeed and we didn't get the job done so him getting fired is a product of us not getting the job done."
Tejada: "he's a great man. He's respectable and I'm sorry for what happened to (Dave.) Its good for (Juan) because its an opportunity he's probably been waiting for. It sa good opportunity for him to show the Major League he has the talent to be a manager in the big league. He's been here a long time and everyone knows him here. Before today everybody respected him."
Ohman: (SARCASM) "Unfortunately he's really changed already. He's starting to act managerial. Just talking down to people... I don't like that. It's unbelievable.... guy gets a new job and he starts acting like he's important.
