PG Police Off-Duty Activities To Be Examined
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- An office that will examine the off-duty employment of Prince George's County Police Department officers has a new head.
Interim Prince George's County Police Chief Mark Magaw has appointed Maj. David Morris to head the new Office of Secondary Employment. County officers currently work second jobs like guarding apartment complexes and shopping centers. Morris says he wants to see specific training about off-duty work and to explore restrictions on where officers can work.
Last month three county officers were indicted in federal court with two accused of helping a liquor store guard the transportation of untaxed cigarettes and alcohol.
The president of the county's Fraternal Order of Police says he doesn't see a need for widespread changes.
