Pane e Vino
408 South High Street
Early April… Is winter over yet?!?! Though Mother Nature and your bball team continue to drive you mad, we are here to brighten up your April. Hazzah!!
With the grand opening of Pane e Vino tonight, Baltimore will be introduced to its newest Little Italy hot spot. Slotted next to Café Gia this new joint is literally the big brother restaurant to the café—that is to say, the owner of Pane e Vino, Steven Blattermann, is literally the older brother of Gia's co-owner, Gia Blattermann.
But, after the blood relationship and location the similarities between these two spots end. The new food haven seats approximately 30 people in a room complete with warm wood and metal surfaces lit by beautiful chandeliers.
The restaurant name, aptly translating to "bread and wine", will specialize in small plates and specialty wines. Keeping with Italian tradition of enjoying an aperetivi (a drink and appetizer) prior to your meal, you now have a great place to snack while you wait for your table at Café Gia, or to come rejoice for happy hour after a long day of work (aka playing Pac Man on Google Maps).
Amazing choices like focaccia pizza with Gorgonzola, prosciutto and porcini or the grilled octopus with mashed garbanzo beans are sure to prep your palate for dinner. While cocktails like the Classic Negroni with Hendricks Gin, Campari, and Carpano Antica will properly prep you for a night on the town.
So forget about the manic weather and head to Pane e Vino for a tastier spring.
