O's drop Beltway Series, Simon injured
Not sure how we can spin this loss positively -- For starters, no pun, Kevin Millwood, the ace of the Orioles' staff, pitched well but is still a shocking 0-4. Koji Uehara could be headed for the DL. The new closer, Alfredo Simon, could join him with a left hamstring injury. The bullpen is spent. The offense mustered just two hits off John Lannan, who hadn't earned a win in a month. Nats' reliever Drew Storen recorded his first career hit (and at-bat) off Millwood, a single to left in the seventh. And Josh Willingham hit a walkoff home run off Cla Meredith to hand the Orioles a 4-3 loss. The home run marked the Nats first walkoff win of the season.
Matt Capps blew his first save of the year (he was 16-for-16) when Julio Lugo hit a bloop single scoring Adam Jones to tie the game at three. Meredith came in to face Willingham after Simon apparently suffered the injury while covering first on a Willie Harris (he hit for Adam Dunn) groundout.
Dave Trembley said he will know more on Tuesday re: Simon and will also have a status update on Koji.
The Orioles will try to enjoy a day off on Monday in Baltimore before hosting a three-game series vs. the Oakland A's at Camden Yards on Tuesday.
