O's , Bergesen drop first game to KC
The Orioles need to beat the under .500 teams. Plain and simple. They took two of three from the Mariners (good) but lost two of three to the Indians (not good) and lost the first game to the Royals (very bad.) The negative: Brad Bergesen took his first loss since returning from Triple-A Norfolk. The positive: Corey Patterson was solid at leadoff and Ty Wigginton and Miguel Tejada are still hot.
I went to the Kansas City side post game and listened to their new manager, Ned Yost, compliment the pesky Patterson up top and then heard Billy Butler, who when 2-for-4 with two RBI, praise Bergesen. The O's got compliments from their opponents but unfortunately, that doesn't help in the win column.
Bergesen was good, but KC's starter Kyle Davies was better. Davies earned the win with his performance -- 6IP, 7H, 2ER -- his first win of the season.
The Orioles will try again tomorrow as they close out the two-game series before heading to Texas for two and DC for three against the Nationals.
KC's starter for Tuesday --- Last year's AL Cy Young Award winner, Zack Greinke. The O's will send veteran Kevin Millwood to the mound with the hopes of salvaging the series... tune into 105.7 to hear my exclusive interview with Millwood as he talks about facing Greinke and the current state of the O's.
