Orioles Lose Top Executive
BALTIMORE (WJZ/AP) -- The Orioles are losing their top executive.
A person familiar with the decision tells The Associated Press that president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail is leaving the team.
Baltimore went 69-93 during its 14th consecutive losing season, and MacPhail's contract expires on Oct. 31. MacPhail took the job in June 2007.
In a statement, Orioles managing partner Peter Angelos said, "On behalf of the Orioles organization, I thank Andy for his service to the club over the last four and a half seasons. Andy's knowledge and experience have helped lay the groundwalk for our future success. I hold Andy in the highest regard and thank him for his commitment and dedication to the Orioles. On a personal level, Andy is a dear friend. He will be greatly missed and I wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors."
It's not known who McPhail's replacement will be.
