Officer Porter Doesn't Want To Testify In Other Freddie Gray Trials
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Even though his trial ended with a hung jury, there are major legal developments Tuesday in the case of Officer William Porter.
He was the first city police officer to go on trial in the death of Freddie Gray.
Defense attorneys for Officer Porter argue that he cannot be compelled to testify against Officer Caesar Goodson, whose trial begins next week.
According to our media partner, the Baltimore Sun, in a motion filed to quash a subpoena requiring him to appear as a witness, Porter's attorneys say he has the constitutional right not to testify.
Porter also plans to decline to testify in the trial of Sergeant Alicia White.
White's trial is scheduled to begin January 25.
Because of a gag order in the case, prosecutors and the defense are forbidden from discussing the case.
