No One Injured In 2-Alarm Lansdowne Blaze At Warehouse Complex
LANSDOWNE, Md. (WJZ) -- An early morning fire ripped through an industrial complex in Lansdowne Wednesday, spreading and causing damage to several warehouses.
Amy Yensi has the latest.
Fire officials say the fire spread quickly because the warehouses are full of flammable equipment and chemicals.
Crews were called to the scene just after 7 a.m.
The Merritt Properties, LLC industrial complex on Hollins Ferry Road was engulfed in flames, when firefighters arrived.
Workers waited for help outside the building for help as the blaze jumps from warehouse to another.
Firefighters rush inside the building to find a roof collapse and call for a second alarm.
"Well they did get here quickly, but then even when they got here quickly there was heavy fire with a structural collapse at that time," said a fire official.
The heavy fire was fueled by the machinery and chemicals inside the complex. At least three warehouses -- a machine, storage shop, and paint shop suffered damage.
"We're trying to contain it to just several warehouses and stop it at the firewall," another fire official said. "But there is a lot of equipment feeding this fire, plus with the heavy fire load in that building we're taking defensive operations."
Seventy firefighters were on the scene to battle the blaze and surrounding roads were closed.
Officials say despite the intensity and speed of the fire, no one was injured.
Again all of the workers made it out safely.
Investigators say it's not clear if there was a working sprinkler at the complex.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
