NCAA Lacrosse Tournament Second Round

In the first round of the tournament I went a respectable 6-2.  The two games I got wrong was the 8-9 matchup of Stony Brook and Denver and of course the upset of the tournament Army stunning # 2 Syracuse.  So now is time for Round 2's predictions.

# 1 Virginia vs. # 8 Stony Brook

Virginia coasted in their first round game against Mount St. Mary's by a score of 18-4.  Stony Brook has had a great year and will be playing on their home field for the second round game but again Virginia is way to talented, it wont be as lopsided but should be easy for the Cavs.

WINNER: Virginia

# 4 North Carolina vs. # 5 Duke

Duke is coming off a first round thrashing of Johns Hopkins and Carolina squeaked by the Blue Hens 14-13.  In their only meeting of the season Carolina handled Duke 13-7, Carolina's only losses were to the best teams in the ACC (Maryland & Virginia).  Dont look too much into Duke's win as many didn't belive Hopkins belonged this year.

WINNER: North Carolina

# 3 Maryland vs. Notre Dame

Maryland got by a tough Hofstra squad and the Irish pulled off a mild upset over # 6 Princeton.  If any team benefited more from the Syracuse loss than Maryland it will be hard to find it.  Maryland should be able to coast into the final four, no disrespect to the Irish.

WINNER: Maryland

# 7 Cornell vs. Army

Army is so far the story of the tournament with its huge upset of # 2 Syracuse.  Cornell on the other hand squandered a huge 6 goal lead and needed overtime to get past the feisty Greyhounds.  Call me crazy but i like this Army story a lot and a win over Syracuse could carry this team deep into the tournament, Army's run continues.

WINNER: Army

FINAL FOUR Matchups:

# 1 Virginia vs. # 4 North Carolina, # 3 Maryland vs. Army

So the way I see it the Final four will look like the ACC Tournament, with 3 of the 4 making it.  Check back next week and ill predict the final 4.
