My T-Shirt Says "Buck It!" - Revisited
Hey, folks...I posted this blog a few weeks back and with Buck Showalters hiring officially in the books I've decided to repost my original thoughts. I've also added to our growing list of BUCK SAYINGS. Some of these T-Shirts might see the light of day if I can get it done. Keep sending your BUCKISMS my way and I'll keep the list going. Have fun! - BULLDOG
So, the O's might land themselves a "Buck"...good old Buck Showalter. I'm all in favor of the move and would love to see a manager with his experience and mindset accept the gig. Showalter, has been-there-done-that and is a perfect fit on many levels for the Orioles current state-of-play. Andy MacPhail running the front office and Buck Showalter managing the on-field product would be as heavy and legit a one-two-punch as the O's have had a chance to land since Gillick/Johnson. Fingers crossed...thumbs up...smiles wide and arms wide open for Buck Showalter being announced as the new manager wearing the good old black-n-orange.
Just a few tidbits for ya'll about Buck: His dad was a HS coach and Principal...

he grew up in Florida playing baseball year 'round and had a lighted field to hang out on just over his boyhood backyard fence...he played college ball at Mississippi State (BULLDOGS BABY!!) where he earned All-American status...Showalter was drafted in the 5th round by the New York Yankees and spent seven seasons in the Yankees minors...career MLB numbers - .294/17 hr/ 336 rbi...
.. he was well liked and respected within the NYY organization but as a 1st baseman he was in the pipeline behind Don Mattingly...managed the New York Yankees for 4 seasons (313-266)...THE YEAR AFTER HE WAS FIRED THE YANKEES WON THE WS...managed the expansion Arizona Diamondbacks (250-236)...THE YEAR AFTER HE WAS DISMISSED THE DIAMONDBACKS WON THE WS...managed the Texas Rangers for 4 seasons never finishing better than 3rd - but he did win a second Manager of the Year Award from MLB.
How did he get the nickname BUCK do you ask? Well, legend has it that "BUCK' stuck because Showalter is known for having enjoyed hanging out in the clubhouse for hours...BUCK NAKED! ![Showalter[1]](http://cbswjzfm.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/showalter12.jpg?w=215)
Which brings me to this...
...I say we start thinking of some cool T-Shirts...stuff we can print up and wear all over Camden Yards to honor Buck and the new attitude he might bring with him to Crabtown. The possibilities are endless...so, here is my list and I'm hoping that ya'll trump me by coming up with even better ideas.
Lets have some fun with this!
