Most Indispensable-AFC East
The AFC East, depending on who you talk to, boasts a couple of favorites for the AFC crown. One thing that can be agreed on though is it also includes the leagues best trash talkers as both Bart Scott and head coach Rex Ryan call the AFC east home. Fortunately for fans of the HBO show hard knocks, they both represent the New York Jets who open the season against the Baltimore Ravens on a highly anticipated telecast of Monday Night Football. Who could the Jets not afford to lose come Week 1?
New York Jets
Scouts Inc-Darrelle Revis-CB
My Pick:
Unfortunately for the Jets the player that may very well deserve this title may not put on a uniform this year, as even though Revis is perfectly healthy a contract disagreement threatens his involvement in their season. Though Darrelle is very important to that defense, I feel it starts up front with pressure and if that attacking defense can repeat their performance from last year, it'll be difficult for any quarterback to even attack that secondary. Point being that you can hide a weakness at secondary, if the pressure you put on the quarterback allows you to. What I did see last year that I believe has carried over to this year is a young quarterback prone to the turnover. An offensive line that played great last year will need to put on an encore performance to give Sanchez the chance to grow. That's why I'll go with Nick Mangold who's been one of the top centers in the league since his introduction to the league.
New England Patriots
Scouts Inc-Vince Wilfork
My Pick:
Scouts Inc absolutely got this pick wrong as even though Vince is essential to their success, he may not even be the most indispensable player on that defense. I'd go with Jerod Mayo who has shown signs of being a great player and with a defense that's been the youngest it's been in years, they'll need his leadership. Even with all of that said the most indispensable player on the Pats plays on the offensive side of the ball and is none other than Randy Moss. Randy is just too gifted to be covered man to man, and I'd be interested to see how that offense operates without his presence downfield. Does Wes Welker get open as often?
Miami Dolphins
Scouts Inc-Jake Long-LT
My Pick:
The last choice was completely off the mark, but the guys over at Scouts Inc make up for it with this pick. Jake Long has been a dominating tackle since he was drafted to be just that and with a young quarterback taking the snaps in Miami it will be key to protect him. With the Dolphins trading for Brandon Marshall, they've shown a commitment to put the ball in the air more. To keep this weapon available for second year starter Chad Henne, Jake Long will have to continue his stellar play.
Buffalo Bills
Scouts Inc-Lee Evans-WR
My Pick:
Fairly easy choice here as well as without Lee Evans an already struggling offense may have a difficult time getting first downs on a consistent basis. The drafting of C.J. Spiller is already having an impact on the offense as they've been able to move the ball during the preseason but without the downfield aspect that Lee brings to the offense, teams would key in on the ground game and make C.J. irrelevant pretty quickly.
