Millwood to DL, Pie reinstated, Atkins released

Well as expected, after allowing five runs in the first inning (45 pitches) Sunday afternoon, the Orioles' starter Kevin Millwood was placed on the 15-Day DL today with right forearm strain. Millwood, who has been a bust for the O's this season, has reportedly felt soreness over the past few days but felt he could pitch through the pain.

In a corresponding move, the O's reinstated Felix Pie who started Tuesday night's game in Detroit in left field batting seventh. Pie singled in his first at-bat.

The Orioles will need a fifth starter on Saturday when the O's fave the Rangers in Texas. It appears Chris Tillman, who pitched a complete game shutout Sunday afternoon, will once again be the logical choice.

First baseman Garrett Atkins, another Orioles' bust this season, was officially released by the club today after being DFA on June 27.
