Metro Rail Yard Crashes Raise Concern
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Metro trains have been involved in a series of low-speed collisions in rail yards since December, a result of train operators breaking rules on safe-driving practices.
The chairman of the Tri-State Oversight Committee, Metro's safety oversight agency, says Metro has reported five or six rail yard crashes since December.
A committee report scheduled to be presented Thursday to a Metro board raises concerns over Metro's compliance with safe driving practices in rail yards. No one was seriously injured in the accidents, but the amount of damage to the cars is being determined by Metro.
A Metro spokeswoman says the agency is addressing the issue.
