Metro: Baby Left In Truck Rescued After Dad Realizes Mistake

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say a 6-month-old baby left for hours in a truck parked at a Metro station in Maryland was rescued after his father realized his mistake.

Metro spokesman Dan Stessel says the father parked at the Forest Glen station around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday and headed to work, leaving the baby behind. The father later realized he forgot the baby and contacted authorities around 10 a.m.

When rescuers broke a window to reach the baby, Stessel says he was conscious and alert, but had an elevated temperature. The National Weather Service reports temperatures in 80s Wednesday morning.

The baby was taken to a hospital, where Stessel says investigators are speaking with the father. He says Metro Transit Police won't issue a citation Wednesday, but prosecutors and Child Protective Services will investigate.
