Md. Teen Gets OK To Build Sign For Community Park

NEW MARKET, Md. (AP) -- The town of New Market has given a teen the go-ahead to build and install a sign for a community park.

The Frederick News-Post reports 14-year-old Gaven Sovero proposed the sign earlier this month at a meeting of the New Market Town Council. His plan for an engraved wooden sign was given approval.

Gaven says he'll seek wood donations from local businesses. He plans to stain the wood and engrave the words that will be painted in.

"This will be my first go at it," he said of the engraving.

Gavin will get some help erecting the sign when he's done. His Boy Scout troop will help do that. Gaven himself is working to become an Eagle Scout.

The community park that's getting the sign has a playground, basketball court and pavilion.

Gaven's parents say they have seen their son excel at big projects before. He started a landscaping business when he was 12 and now mows grass and weeds gardens.

"He's very motivated," said his mom Kenda Sovero.

Gaven also plays lacrosse and takes piano lessons.
