Md. School Starting Composting Project
SYKESVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Metal left over from making signs for Maryland roadways will be used to make compost bins at a Carroll County school.
The Maryland State Highway Administration is donating the metal to South Carroll High School in Sykesville. Students plan to use the metal to build compost bins for cafeteria scraps. The compost will then be used for landscaping, planting trees and other environmental projects around campus.
The project was the idea of 17-year-old senior Emily Peterson. Students are expected to begin building the bins in February.
