Md. Man Charged In His Mom's Christmas Death

SALISBURY, Md. (AP) -- The victim of a fatal Christmas shooting in Salisbury has been identified as the mother of the man charged in her death.

Twenty-three-year-old Jack Braboy is charged with attempted murder in the shooting death of his mother, Mary Denise Alonzo.

Charging documents say one witness reported seeing Braboy shoot Alonzo in the chest before she fell to the ground. The witness says he then shot her twice in the head.

Court documents say Braboy denied shooting his mother in a police interview.

The Daily Times reports that Braboy's attorney asked that he be given a mental evaluation to determine whether he's competent to assist in his own defense, saying she hadn't been able to undergo a meaningful interview with him. Her request was granted.

Braboy remains held without bond.
