Maryland Teacher Charged With Heroin Possession

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Montgomery County officials say an elementary school teacher has been charged with possession of heroin after a traffic stop in Silver Spring.

Police say Rebecca Amick, 25, was one of three people in a car that was stopped for speeding at the intersection of Georgia and Thayer avenues on Tuesday night. Police searched the car and the occupants and found Amick with nine bags of heroin. She was charged with possession of heroin and released on personal recognizance.

A spokeswoman for Montgomery public schools says Amick teaches special education at Woodlin Elementary School and has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case.

Police say a male passenger was also charged with possession of heroin, and a male driver was charged with speeding.
