Man Sentenced In Shooting In Which Boy Was Hit

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A man has been sentenced to 55 years in prison for attempted murder after a 10-year-old boy was shot in the arm while the man was shooting at someone else.

Dafon Canty was sentenced Tuesday in Baltimore City Circuit Court. He was convicted on multiple charges in January, including
being a minor in possession of a firearm. Canty was 18 when the crime was committed.

Prosecutors say on Aug. 19, 2010, Canty opened fire on a man who he had previously argued with. The intended victim ran into a house where the 10-year-old was, and pushed him to the ground in an effort to protect him.

But the boy was shot in the arm. The intended victim was not hurt.
