Man Killed In Essex Crash

ESSEX, Md. (WJZ) -- Baltimore County Police are investigating a fatal crash in Essex.

The crash happened at Eastern Boulevard and Stemmers Run Road on Tuesday around 2:36 p.m.

Investigators say that John Barr, 82, was traveling southbound on Stemmers Run Road in his 1994 Chevy Celebrity going into the intersection on a green signal. Behind him was Ann Lainton-Fontaine, 48, driving her 2000 Ford Focus. As they were going through the intersection Barr was struck in the driver's side by Elmer Williams, 51. Police say Williams was traveling westbound on Eastern Boulevard and entered the intersection on a red signal. The Ford Focus tried to avoid the accident, but was struck by Barr.

Barr was transported to Shock Trauma by helicopter and was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. Lainton-Fontaine was transported to Franklin Square Hospital by ambulance with minor injuries. Williams received no injuries requiring hospital transport, however, traffic charges against him are pending the completion of the crash investigation, and review by the State's Attorneys Office.

The crash investigation is continuing.
