Major Storm Cleanup Across Maryland
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- High winds amount to the most damaging storm seen so far this winter by BGE.
As Mike Schuh reports, at its peak, nearly 100,000 were without power.
The cleanup can be heard in Northeast Baltimore and felt.
"There was a big tree down. I went with neighbors who had a generator, then went home and froze for the rest of the night," said Japonica Barnes, who lost power.
In her area, multiple trees fell on the same section.
BGE has 1,200 linemen and tree cutters on the job. Most jobs left Saturday were the tough ones.
"The wind really wreaked havoc on the system," said Rob Gould, BGE.
Heavy bucket trucks were driven into backyards so they could get closer to the trees and wires.
And in Baltimore City about a dozen roads were closed when trees fell across them, sometimes taking out cars in the process.
"This storm was by far the worst that we've seen this year," said Gould.
BGE doesn't expect all of its customers to have their power back until late Sunday night.
