Low Gas Prices Encouraging More Drivers To Hit The Road

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- There is good news if you are planning a summer road trip: gas prices are now below $2 at many Maryland stations.

The Maryland average is $2.12, but many stations are offering less than $2 a gallon, WJZ's Tracey Leong reports.

"They're paying the lowest gas prices since April and 2004," said Christine Delise, AAA Mid-Atlantic.

AAA says several factors are driving down those prices.

"Declining crude oil costs with oil trading around $40 a barrel and an abundant supply of gasoline nationwide," said Delise.

The low prices are encouraging more drivers to hit the road this summer.

"I'm going to go down to Ocean City," said Patrick McAvinue.

"Road trips... Virginia Beach, Ocean City... things like that," said Latoya Dow.

And use the savings where it matters.

"I'm a student right now, so I use it for school," said Dow.

"Makes my job much easier. I'm a traveling musician. Helps me get down the road," said McAvinue.

AAA predicts the low prices will last throughout the summer
