Koji, Simon to DL... and more...
- Alfredo Simon (strained hamstring) and Koji Uehara (elbow strain) to the 15-day DL. Both will go to Sarasota when the Orioles are in Toronto over the weekend. Simon says he needs a week but the O's training staff says he needs the full 15-days... obviously, the training staff won.
- The corresponding moves for Simon and Koji are two relievers, Frank Mata and Alberto Castillo. This will be Mata's first Major League stint.
- Brian Roberts was cleared by doctors to start baseball activities. He will also head to Sarasota with Koji and Simon.
- David Hernandez was moved from the starting rotation to the bullpen. Hernandez spoke of the move before the game and said the biggest adjustment for him will be getting ready and being ready. Hernandez made one relief appearance this season vs. Oakland... and he said he's turned to Jason Berken for advice on the move. Dave Trembley does not have any set roles for the bullpen, which now consists of eight members, but may turn to left-hander Will Ohman to close in place of Simon (and Gonzalez).
- Speaking of Gonzalez, the injured closer has been moved to the 60-day DL.
- The Orioles will need a fifth starter on Saturday May 29th in Toronto and Trembley told the media before the game, "You guys to your homework and figure it out." Looks like Chris Tillman, who will pitch on schedule if his name is called, will get the nod.
