Judge Dismisses Claim Against Schaefer's Estate

TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- A judge has dismissed a claim by man who says he was entitled to $28,000 from the late Gov. William Donald Schaefer's estate for meals, driving and errands he performed.

Baltimore County Orphans' Court Judge Colleen Cavanaugh dismissed Michael Schaefer's claim Tuesday. Michael Schaefer is not related to the late governor.

The Baltimore Sun reports that Cavanaugh repeatedly asked Schaefer for evidence that the governor and he had a relationship beyond friendship. Schaefer said the governor promised to leave him something in his will. William Donald Schaefer did not, and such statements are not admissible to support claims against an estate.

Orphans' Court is Maryland's probate court specializing in handling wills, estates and guardianship of minors.

William Donald Schaefer died in April at age 89.
