Jamarcus Just Can't Wait To Be King?
The all time King of "The NFL Draft Bust" Ryan Leaf may have officially been dethroned today. In an ESPN interview weeks ago Ryan Leaf said that he hoped to ONE DAY no longer be the poster boy for Draft day fiascos and today Mr. Bust himself might have gotten his wish. I am speaking of course of The Oakland Raiders who cut their losses today by releasing their long time struggling QB Jamarcus Russell. On a side note, am I crazy to think Lane Kiffin is somewhere toasting to the idea that "he told them so!"? In my own personal opinion, I don't know if Ryan Leaf is in the clear just yet. If Jamarcus was to never take another NFL snap is he worse than the clown who wore #16 in San Diego? I mean did Jamarcus ever go 1-15 for 4 yards with 3 fumbles? And quite frankly I don't know if Jamarcus has ever had his defining "bust moment". Ryan Leaf on the other hand had his and how entertaining was that? After a reporter questioned his play Ryan completely lost his mind and had to be restrained by teammate Junior Seau. And even worse for Ryan, this was all caught on camera. "Don't talk to me, all right Knock it off!!" Ha are you kidding me, that's classic. Then as if that wasn't enough, his written apology was an absolute gem. His reading of it was the least genuine thing you'll ever see, and to top that he threw the paper on the floor when he was finished with it. And with all of that said, I'm not sure Jamarcus Russell's career is over. I was one that felt he had the talent to become a player some day. I got a chance to see Jamarcus play in Oakland a couple of years back when the Colts were the visiting team and I was impressed with some of the plays I saw him make. Keep in mind he was in his rookie year, but there were definitely some throws he made that were big boy throws. He showed promise and did so with his biggest threat being Ronald Curry, a former Quarterback himself. I could be completely wrong but would you be motivated to play in Oakland? Randy Moss is perhaps the greatest talent I've ever seen at receiver and in Oakland he was a joke. A year removed from the black hole and he was breaking NFL records again. Simply put Oakland is indeed the "Black Hole".
