I Don't Buy It

A report came out recently that said that Oriole legend Cal Ripken JR wanted to become a part of the Orioles front office but owner Peter Angelos nixed it.  The logic was that according to unnamed sources, Angelos didn't want Ripken getting the credit when the club turned things around.   

I'm all for conspiracy theories and Angelos is far from the greatest owner in sports, but I'm not buying this one.  Mostly because of Andy MacPhail.  When MacPhail took over the baseball operations of the club, it was with the idea that he would be in full control.  Therefore, if like the story says MacPhail and Ripken came to an agreement on a job, then he would have a job.  I don't believe that Peter Angelos really cares at this point who gets the credit.  He just wants to see a winner, and even if he did feel that way, I think he's bright enough not to express that to Cal as the story states.  I'm sure there will be more to come on this story as the days pass, and something may come out that sways me.  For now though, I ain't buying what they're selling
