Hyattsville Man Killed When Tractor-Trailer Hits His Dirt Bike

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Authorities are identifying a man who was killed when his dirt bike was struck by a tractor-trailer in northeast Washington.

D.C. police say the man, Royal Garner, 18, of Hyattsville, Md., was traveling on Florida Avenue when a tractor-trailer headed in the same direction made a wide right turn onto Eckington Place early Tuesday. Police say Garner lost control of his bike and was struck by a rear tire of the tractor-trailer.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say a person on a separate dirt bike who was traveling with Garner managed to avoid the tractor-trailer.

Authorities are investigating the accident.
