Howard County Plows Out Lieutenant Governor

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) -- Howard County plowed Republican Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford's street after he requested help.

Republican County Executive Allan Kittleman told The Baltimore Sun (http://bsun.md/1Pz3mjQ) that Rutherford called him Saturday to say that if he could get out of his neighborhood before the end of Sunday or Monday morning, "that would be great."

The road was plowed after 5 p.m. Sunday. Kittleman says Rutherford was needed in Annapolis to help manage the storm response, so he made an exception to his rule about not extending plowing preferences to elected officials.

Rutherford spokesman Doug Mayer says the time Rutherford's street was plowed was "not particularly early." Mayer says Rutherford "thought it was important that he be able to leave his house to attend to his official duties 18 hours after the storm ended."
