BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Police have charged a woman with murder after they say she fatally stabbed her husband inside a Johns Hopkins Hospital room Friday afternoon.
The Baltimore Police Department was initially unsure if it was self-inflicted or if the man was murdered, but following further investigation, police arrested Anita Nicole Jones, 30, and charged her with murder in the death of Christopher Yancey Sr.
Investigators were called to the hospital just before 2:15 p.m. on Friday about a death.
Hospital staff told police that Jones and Yancey had been arguing while waiting for their 14-year-old son to get a procedure. Shortly after, Jones came out of the room and said Yancey had cut himself.
Staff went into the room and found Yancey with lacerations to the upper body. Yancey was pronounced dead a short time later.
Jones left the hospital before officers arrived on scene.
Police immediately began investigating, and couldn't find a weapon at the scene. Authorities also found that Yancey's injuries were "not consistent with an apparent suicide."
"You have a child now with one parent deceased, his father. and his mother is in custody, charged with first-degree murder," said BPD spokesperson T.J. Smith. "This is a domestic related situation, and domestic incidents happen in Anytown, USA. And whatever this argument was over, it wasn't worth anyone's life. We know that."
Authorities got an arrest warrant for Jones, and she was arrested on Saturday.
Police said they have not located the murder weapon.
Johns Hopkins Hospital spokeswoman Kim Hoppe released this statement:
"Baltimore City Police are investigating the death of a visitor that occurred in a patient room today. This was an isolated incident and at no time were patients, staff or other visitors in danger. We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased. Since this is a police investigation, we must defer all inquiries to them."
