Yup, thats what he did. Why? Becasue he was playing Quidditch! I'm hanging out in NYC for a few days while on vacation and ran into some folks last night that were practicing Quidditch. Yes, the game from the Harry Potter films. Yes, it's insane. Yes, it's for real. Yes, I want to cry!

There is an International Quidditch Foundation with nearly 85 sanctioned college level teams and 235 middle/high school level squads around the country. By this time next year the college ranks will grow by another 35-50 schools. The 2010 World Cup will take place in New York on November 13-14th.

You do have to hold a broom between your legs while on the field of play and while it is co-ed in some leagues...it still gets rough-and-tumble. If this catches on for real...I'm going to re-think my entire life. I will admit that a few of the ladies I met last night ...all players...were kinda  hot and quite proud of how well they can maintain a firm grip on the stick while still controlling the ball. It seems to be one of those whacky Quidditch insider jokes ...go figure.

Oh, and in case you're wondering...University of Maryland DOES have a Quidditch squad. Yes, yes they do.
