Hit-and-run driver identified in fatal crash in Anne Arundel County
The suspect in a deadly hit-and-run crash in Anne Arundel County on Saturday has been identified and faces multiple charges related to the incident.
The driver was Michael Hilliard, of Severna Park, Maryland, according to charging documents obtained by CBS News Baltimore.
Hilliard faces charges of failing to stop a vehicle at the scene of an accident involving death, failure to return to the scene of an accident involving death and related offenses.
Steven Joseph Reynolds, 54, was struck and killed as he was walking in a crosswalk around 10:30 p.m. in the area of Ritchie Highway at Magothy Bridge Road.
A preliminary investigation found that Reynolds was struck in a crosswalk by an SUV that was traveling northbound on Ritchie Highway, said a statement issued by the Anne Arundel Police Department.
After the crash, the SUV -- which police said could be a black Land Rover model L 462 -- continued north on Ritchie Highway. The vehicle then turned into the Magothy Shopping Center, before returning to northbound Ritchie Highway.
"The suspect vehicle may have damage to the right headlight and right front fender and should be missing the front wheel well trim and the passenger mirror," the statement said.
