Historic Md. Home In Danger Of Closing
GLENN DALE, Md. (AP) -- A historic home and museum in Prince George's County is in danger of closing.
The Marietta House was built in the early 1800s and opened as a museum in 1989.
Prince George's County's Parks and Recreation Department supervises the property but says the number of visitors the home gets has slipped. A group of local residents has temporarily stopped a plan to convert the mansion into office space for National and Historical Resources Division employees, but it's unclear what will happen to the property.
According to the county the museum saw 385 visitors between 2006 and 2007 but only 280 people between 2009 and 2010. The figures do not include people who participated in outdoor events at the home.
