Hey Mayweather "You Will Lose"
This might not be one of the more popular postings of mine, but if guys can dedicate a post to the NHL or Lacrosse, the sport of boxing deserves one also. Anyway, Floyd "Money" Mayweather for years has ducked top-tier competition but on Saturday night finally did not. Though in my opinion "Sugar" Shane Mosley was years past his prime, he was coming off of an impressive victory over Antonio Margarito. Antonio Margarito, it should be noted, faced a 1 year ban from the sport for essentially fighting with bricks in his gloves. When Mosley fought Margarito, the cement was removed, obviously changing the type of fighter Margarito was. So bottom line, was Shane's victory over him all that impressive? I don't know, because on Saturday night against Mayweather, he looked like an old aging fighter who was a few weeks away from announcing his retirement. With all that said, Floyd was very impressive in his victory over Mosley, and for the first time in his career was the aggressor. I was as shocked as I've ever been watching a fight when Floyd was visibly hurt in the 2nd round. His knees buckled and the undefeated fighter was there for the taking. Unfortunately for Shane he didn't take him, and Floyd dominated the remainder of the bout. Predictably so all the post fight chatter involved the possibility of a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. A fight, that in my opinion Floyd has avoided with the cover of a drug testing dispute. As are all of Mayweather's pre fight antics, the demand is nonsense and would be a non issue for any rational adult. But let me tell you this, I attended a Manny Pacquiao fight with great interest as I went in support of Miguel Cotto. I thought Manny was great before the fight, and as I saw my guy being physically manhandled by a "smaller" fighter, he went from great to greater in my mind. I'm not sure there is a human being in the world who can beat this guy. So maybe Floyd's stance helps him in a way. People forget, Floyd "Money" Mayweather was originally "Pretty Boy" Floyd and by hiding from the PacMan he can stay true to his original moniker.
