He Asked What?

During a pre-draft interview session with Dez Bryant; Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland asked Bryant if his mother was a prostitute. Can you imagine it? Can you imagine going through an interview and having your potential employer hit you square in the face with a question like that?
NFL GM's and front office types owe it to ownership, coaches, current players and their fan base to turn over as many stones as possible before deciding on which players are worthy...but is this acceptable? What qualifications does Jeff Ireland have to absorb and process the information in a constructive way. If Dez Bryant answered in the affirmative - can Ireland analyze that bit of raw reality and have any true understanding of what ways if any it shaped Bryant? Do teams have psychological profiles at their fingertips? Profiles which give them a matrix of information on how football players - potential NFL caliber players - will or wont develop as worthy draft picks or men if their parents are/were dysfunctional? Can NFL teams really be proactive about helping these young men avoid possible adult pitfalls which might surface due to having survived traumatic childhoods? Do they want more players that have the edge, anger and anti-social traits that can haunt children born into abusive or broken homes? Are they looking for kids with certain charachter disorders and serious psychological flaws that make for a nastier football player?
Seriously, why are questions like the one posed to Dez Bryant being asked at all? An NFL GM looked a young man in the eye and asked him if his mother was a prostitute...during an interview...think about it for a second. He apologized to the player and has yet to apologize to the players mother or family. Where does it go from here?
