Hate on the 'net
If you listened to our show on tuesday, you heard me a little out of sorts. "Salty" is the word I used.
Mystery over, I'm going to come clean.
I did something I know better than to do: I visited a message board. I'm not going to name it, because that's not important. What is important is the visciousness I found there.
Another sports talk host lost his job this week, and there are many amateur program directors who are speculation where he'll wind up. I visited a thread on a board to see what the people thought. What I found was not pretty, in fact, it was downright ugly, and much of it was aimed at my show. Here are a few examples:
....Bruce it's time for a makeover dude. The hair, the outfit, the entire package is relic. I know you may not agree, but you have to change or you will be replaced. The minds at 105.7 must have it in the back of their minds. You know they are always looking to improve the show at CBS radio. Lastly, can you take the entire Fox45 team with you too? That entire stations looks like a horror movie evolved from anchor man. Just saying.....
.......I have to agree about Bruce's show. I have the same feeling listening to Bruce and Zino (sp?) as I do when I hear Yaffee. These guys just try too hard to be Joe Six Pack and it is absolutely painful to listen to. I only listen to Bruce for about 5 minutes a day and that is when I am going through the 95 tunnel and my Sirius is blocked. Just those five minutes make me want to stab my eyes out....
....Baltimore. Sportsradio. Unlistenable.
Across. The. Board.
Believe me, there are many more.
The internet is the greatest communication tool known to man. Truly revolutionary. But it also provides a forum for the disgruntled to stage their asaults...anonymously of course, and with no accountability or fear of retribution. This is not a good thing, and it contributes directly to the breakdown of civility in our society.
To those whom I've quoted and to other who engage in the same thing I have this question: what is wrong with you?
OK, I feel better now.
