Hard as steel, soft on Big Ben
So Ben Roethlisberger won't be charged with any crimes in Georgia. For the second time in less than a year, the man who is nearly impossible to take down on the football field is equally as hard to take down in alleged sexual assault cases. Big Ben will meet with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to explain himself and see if the commish will take any punitive action. While my disdain for Goodell's public handling of cases with the league's players will have to wait, my shock at the Steelers' organization for standing pat so far is almost as great.
While never being a fan of the Steelers, I can be a fan of the organization and the Rooney family. They've built something great. They've done it the right way. They've molded one of the more storied franchises in all of sports. I got it. I respect it. But why are they so soft on Big Ben? Joey Porter became a nuisance ... he was gone. Willie Parker couldn't play anymore ... he was gone. And recently, Santonio Holmes didn't play nice-nice with the law ... he is gone. AHEM! What are you waiting for with Roethlisberger??? I don't actually expect them to get rid of their franchise quarterback, but for crying out loud ... suspend him. Beat the NFL to the punch! It doesn't take a genius to see that the guy, at a minimum, is acting like a jerk. Show some of that organizational pride and do something about it. I know it's all about winning and quarterback is the most important position on the field … I got it. I do. But you are the STEELERS!!! You have 6 Super Bowls!!!! Don't be afraid to do the right thing, especially when your grasp on a division that you used to own, looks like it's starting to slip. Now is the time to have the most integrity!
Be the Steelers that have done it the right way, and take action against your best player for acting his worst.
