Groups Call For Moratorium On More Chicken Houses
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- More than two dozen environmental groups want a moratorium on building new chicken houses on Maryland's Eastern Shore until new regulations are fully in place in 2024.
The groups have scheduled a teleconference call for Tuesday.
The announcement comes as the Environmental Integrity Project releases a new report on the poultry industry on Maryland's Eastern Shore.
The groups, which are being joined by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health's Center for a Livable Future, also are calling for a restoration of money for water-quality monitoring.
