Group Plans To Rehab Hundreds Of Baltimore Homes
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Hundreds of vacant or foreclosed homes in Baltimore have been targeted for rehabilitation by a North Carolina nonprofit group.
The Baltimore Sun reports that Builders of Hope and its partners recently announced they expect to begin renovating 500 properties near Johns Hopkins Hospital into affordable and energy-efficient homes over the next year and a half.
The group plans to invest up to $50 million in Baltimore and Atlanta in a pilot program to repopulate blighted neighborhoods.
Nancy Welsh, founder and CEO of Builders of Hope, said Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis played a key role in bringing the initiative to Baltimore.
